Cheap and Easy Greasecar Conversion with Line Heaters
Brian explains how simple fuel injection line heaters can make for an easy and affordable greasecar conversion to make diesel engines run on waste vegetable oil (WVO / SVO). “If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.”
its called heat tape. you use it on your pipes in winter to keep them for freezing. Pretty cheap.
Can you use 120V heat tape on 12V. You’d have to only use 1/10 of the length, right?
Duh! How about using some light when videotaping this.
Uhhh … when’s the last time anyone actually used “videotape”?
Well, I don’t keep track of that but say ten seconds ago. All the professional tv & cable tv production – not to mention most local professional production is still done (originated) on videotape ( 35mm film is still used in feature filmmaking but some HD (high def) is shot on tape and the RED camera is I believe solid state (google it) or Hard Drive) but it is new and not widely used yet. ( Users have to have a very good reason to retire a $100,000.00 camera before it is worn out.
The point is – whatever the recording method (chemical, electronic or digital), if you don’t illuminate the subject all you get is black and even amateur video can convey information if you stick in a couple light bulbs then viewers can actually see what the guy is talking about. (the sound on this is actually pretty good).
I wonder if this heats up quickly enought to start the engine on veg oil, thereby eliminating the need for purge system.
Just depends on where you live. In Florida these wraps worked fine year-round and were the only heat to the system.
Similar average temperature to that of Texas. Thanks for presenting a way to save money- ALWAYS appreciated.
Nice Video lolz, my names Victoria, im feelin n0rty and h0rn3y if any guyz wana chat im usually on

This is some poor information.
(1) adding injection line heaters is ONE part of a conversion. How is the oil being filtered? I can assure you, cold vegetable oil isn’t going through your normal diesel filter unless you live in the tropics. If you think injector line heaters is all you need, you are probably going to shorten the life of your car considerably.
(2) Greasecar is an actual company and they do actual conversions – not this
(3) dumping unfiltered oil in your tank also a bad idea
Thank you for sharing the wealth of knowledge and the clarification for those viewers may not know better to fully investigate running a diesel car on Wate Vegetable Oil before getting into it.
For further Clarification:
1) This car is in Florida and operates beautifully year round with no other conversion.
2) The WVO used is pre-filtered through 5 micron filters.
3) We are very aware of “Greasecar” – the name has just become a common token brand name such as Kleenex and Band Aid.
THANKS! I was thinking of using electric heating elements/coils to heat the oil from the injectors to the tank. Install an extra batt with a one-way switch (to keep from possiby draining main batt). It would just require waiting a minute or two while oil is being heated, but no diesel should be needed. You have proved my idea is feasible. Not to comfortable with using the coolant heating method, switcing/purging, etc.
Sorry, left out a part… Connect the elements/coils to a thermostat for 180-200 degrees F, and a booster on a timer to initially heat up to 300+/- degrees for a quick heat, (to start up) and shut off….dropping the temp of the element/coils down to the 180-200 degree temp for operation.
Just an idea, but it looks as though it could possibly work.
i’m converting my 300sd in one week, can you please answer one question for me??????
if i do one tank system,. where i heat only the lines and 2nd fuel filter., when i shut off the car, will it do any damage to my old benz???
i get different answers everytime, ,i’m building my own system,. i’m not paying greasl $1000 for parts that cost less then $200
but i don’t want to hurt my baby. I love my benz to death
Thanks for asking! But we are no experts and don’t feel comfortable answering that for you. Brian (in the video) is of the mindset that “You can’t hurt it!” If you’re gettin’ into the grease thing … you better be a good mechanic. Best of luck!
I’m no expert but from my reading if its a warm day and the car is hot you can get by with an hour and a half. However to be delux you should purge, run on diesel before shut down to make sure the injectors & pump are not full of SVO. Makes sense. I heard of people starting on SVO cold in the mid 30F at above temps. I would not do it. Where are you getting your $200 parts that sell for $1000? The VW TDI Kit has a nice round alum tank. May be $600 in parts or so for $1000.
I appreciate the video, we need more videos. But what about shining some light on your engine. Nobody can see your set up. Not that I care, I like my design better. Fool proof, nothing electrical.
Where did you buy the heat lines from? how much where they?where did you hook them up to make them get heat?
u need tube in tube preheater
